A San Diego update and a bit about nervousness…

Been sick sick sick and more sick.  Ugh. Every time I fly, I seem to come home with a new illness of some sort.  I finally start getting better and now I have double ear infections, awesome. At least those aren’t contagious. Ha! I’ve given up drinks (temporarily I might add), started drinking raw organic apple cider vinegar (disgusting and foul!), green smoothies that smell like the woods, vitamin C + D, probiotics, and whole bunch of other concoctions people have suggested to me so we’ll see if it helps any.  If I come home from the next flight without some sort of disease, that will be fantastic! Which brings me to my next topic…….

SAN DIEGO is this weekend! I still have a spot left if anyone wants it on the 27th. You know you want the spot. It’s a rad hotel, 5 star and pretty. ANDDDD my awesome makeup artist will be there on location.  This will be my last San Diego one probably for the year.  I also have openings for the coming up trip in SAN ANTONIO, TX on April 2. I rented an apartment for that. A cute mid-century one. I could potentially do the evening of April 1st as well (my plane lands at 2) or early am on April 3 (before I head to Austin.) Give me a holler at desireehayesphotography@gmail.com

Which brings me to my next topic (how many times can a person say that in one post? Geez, Des!) This is the main topic though so the last time you have to hear that phrase. LOL!

My last minute cancellations are out of control! In my last “sold out” city that was “sold out” for months, I had 5 last minute cancellations (out of 8 total.) This is happening to me over and over and over in each city.  I know your upcoming session probably seems scary.  I totally get it (and have done a boudoir session myself.) You have to go scantily clad in front of a stranger and that is a nerve wrecking. Or maybe your washing machine just broke and spending the money on yourself makes you feel guilty.  I know that feeling too.  I can totally work out a payment plan with you if that is the case where something came up.  Or maybe you booked 6 months ago and made big plans to lose twenty pounds. I say that every month and I never do it.  I totally get that, too. I haven’t been to the gym I have a membership for in at LEAST five months!  Just PLEASE show up. That’s the hardest part.  I don’t care if you have extra twenty (or fifty or whatever) pounds or not and neither will you when you see your pictures because you will look and feel fantastic. That I can promise.  You are fabulous as you are TODAY.  I am good at posing. That’s my thing! Curves are great! (Google Crystal Renn and see how great she looked when she had a little more meat!)

I have my own mom-vodka gut-stretchmark-saddlebag-muffintop-pale thing going on, I TOTALLY get it. The scariest part is driving to the appointment. Every single client has told me that it was way easier than they thought it was going to be.  It’s FINE (and fun!) once you step in the door. I’m a chatter box. There won’t be awkward silences and weirdness. There’s always a bathroom to change in and I do all the poses first (so you know exactly what to do.) I focus on your favorite parts. You don’t have to guess and America’s-Next-Top-Model-it. I promise not to talk like one of those creepy photographers you see in the movies, you know the ones I mean right? The old guys saying “That’s hot, that’s hot, ooh baby” or whatever embarrassing old man pervert thing there is to say. Haha! It’s totally fun and down to earth and non-scary. I questioned posting this on my blog but I think it’s important for people thinking about it to know what it’s like before committing. If you have ANY questions or fear or want to chat first or ANYTHING at all, please let me know and I would be more than happy to help.

Having said that, I am not going to offer any more cities until I see how the rest go. Any future cities will also be required to book the minimum package instead of just a deposit. I do still have spaces open for most of the currently offered cities though….San Antonio, Austin, Miami (almost full) Orlando (almost full) Washington DC, Portland, Seattle, Denver, Chicago (almost full) and Kansas City (almost full.) I hope to see all of who are booked! IF you happen to chicken out last minute, we can do a more “fashion” style shoot. Bring a cute outfit or a fun dress and we’ll make it work (and it will end up being the boudoir you originally wanted anyways because as my husband jokes “you have an insane ability to make people take off their clothes.” Hahahaha!)  My one skill!

OKAY OKAY, I promise I am done! I have to include a picture because what kind of photographer makes a blog post without a picture?  My dog, Zoe aka The Beggar, and my daughter Daphne this morning at breakfast. That’s her “please mama, make her share!” face.

boudoir album cover choices

What are your three favorite covers?  I’d love to have you come on over to my Facebook page and take a vote!  There are many many cover options and at your session, I bring the swatches so you can choose a custom cover. There are tons of different colors, fabrics, and textures.  Problem is, being custom means a longer wait. I do agree that it’s worth the wait to get what you want but sometimes anniversaries or wedding dates seem to fly by and soon they are here and we don’t have 4 weeks to wait.  SOOOOO I am going to have 3 of the below choices always in stock so that if someone wants a last minute session pre-wedding or pre-anniversary or some other special occasion, I can get those albums to you much faster and make sure we have your gifts in time.  I picked these choices based on my highest sellers (and added my personal favorite, whitesnake. My own boudoir album is in the whitesnake but I kind of like “funky” things. LOL) Geez, do I ramble or what?  Go vote before Wednesday! (<–and I’m bossy! Haha!) Thank you!

covers

Here are some recent albums that went out.  The stripe black is the “obsidian” above (and the other is Black Pearl, a floral fabric that will still be available via custom order.)

albums

Ooh, and some fun album giving ideas! ;) Think chocolate martinis + fun outfit + “Here honey, here is your album!” = FUN.  This is probably more for us (girls) than them (they’d be happy with some nudity and a Bud Light) but we deserve fun too! Ooh, I forgot candles! And strawberries and whipped cream!

1. Coconut Circoc (THE best. EVER.) 2. Chocolate Coconut Martinis 3. Godiva Chocolate Liqueur 4 and 5. Elle McPherson “Boudoir” lace collection (It’s really called “Boudoir.” Perfect, right?) 6. Cosmic Suede Pump 7. Wolford Black Thigh Highs 8. Kama Sutra Body Chocolate 9. Desiree Hayes Boudoir album (That sounds so nerdy typing my own name but just go with it. Haha!)

A few pics of some recent albums.  Pictured below is black gold, texas tea, black pearl, black magic (see, black is popular!), sidewinder (the snake-ish blue one) and candyland (red textured.) I always love to see how the albums turn out from the images and fabric choices the clients pick! Besides shooting the actual session (I love meeting people!) my next favorite part of this job is seeing the finished product.  So fun.

Heels + Miami + DC

I want you to go do a test (unless you’re a man.)  Right now.  Go to your closet and put your highest pair of heels on.  Then stand in front of a mirror and look at your legs and butt.  A little lift, right?! Plus a tad more definition in your calves, right?  Yes! If you do not have a good pair of heels you should really get some.  (You don’t HAVE to have high heels for your session if you hate them but I really recommend at least one pair for at least a couple of images.) Even if you are really tall, it doesn’t matter because you will be laying down/sitting in some of your poses anyways.

I do think there are some more flattering “rules” with heels though.  If you have shorter legs (or thicker ankles) avoid ankle straps.  Ankle straps draw your eye and make your legs appear to “stop” right there whereas a “step in” heel elongates you legs.

Can you tell yesterday I was online shoe shopping? HA! I kept thinking “That would be cute for boudoir! I need to post these!”  So I am. I will admit to loving shoes (and heels in particular, I think that is the only “girlie” thing about me! LOL) They always fit.  They don’t care how many margaritas I drink or how many taquitos I pack away at Happy Hour (unlike my stupid jeans which all hate me right now.)

1. Boutique 9 Girly 2. Aldo, Carthon 3. Aldo, Fawson 4. Betsey Johnson Calandra 5. Betsey Johnson Newton 2 6. Bebe Halen 7. Betsey Johnson Walland 8. BP Kailyn 9. Steve Madden Crissy 10. Max Studio Czech 11. Pelle Moda Fairs 12. Enzo Angiolini Sully 13. Guess Hondola

Okay, now for the Miami and DC part! If you are on my Facebook page you already know this because my Facebook peeps always get a heads up (and thank you to those who have already booked!) but I will be doing marathons in these two cities in a few months.  Miami is April 29-30 and Washington DC will be May 27-28.  For an update on the other upcoming marathons, Dallas, Philly, and St Louis are sold out.  For Atlanta, I have one spot left for Saturday Jan 15 @ 2:30 or I have a couple left for Friday, January 14th as well.  To see availability or to book online, you can do so here: http://desiree-hayes-photography.genbook.com

I am headed out to Scottsdale, AZ tonight! Weee! LOL Have a great weekend everyone!  I’ll be back on Sunday so if my response time this weekend is a little slow, it’s because I am out “shooting” people.  LOL!

Can you believe it’s almost NOVEMBER?!

Is it just me or has this year gone by crazy fast? I now have an EIGHT year old and next month my youngest will be FIVE! It seems like they were tiny not that long ago.  Soon it will be 2011! I decided to do an update post with upcoming boudoir dates for November through March.  I’ll be hitting up Scottsdale, AZ, Dallas, TX, Atlanta, GA, Philadelphia, PA and St, Louis, MO over the next few months. The session can be boudoir, couples boudoir, or boudoir style maternity. If you are local to Southern California and interested in a session I do have a few openings Nov 20 weekend, otherwise I am booked up until end of January.

Scottsdale, AZ - November 13 (1 spot left @ 1 pm)

Dallas, TX -December 3 and 4 (SOLD OUT)

Atlanta, GA - Jan 14 (2 spots left) and Jan 15 (1 spot left on @ 2:30 pm)

Philadelphia, PA - Feb 18 and 19 (SOLD OUT)

St. Louis, MO -  March 11 (sold out) and March 12 (1 spot left @ 10 am)

Album packages (including the session) begin at $450.  Shoot me an email at desireehayesphotography@gmail.com for more information or you can book online via HERE.

Thank you to all who have booked sessions, I am SO excited to meet you!

Don’t laugh at my nerdy map.  I hate posting without an image, it makes me crazy. HAHA April - December 2011 will be posted soon as well…..so far there is Portland, OR (June) and Denver, CO (July) but I’m 98% sure there will be a Washington DC (May-ish) and south Florida (I just need to book flights and hotels before I list it! I’ll keep you posted.)
